2006-04-19 - 1:34 p.m. 1. We started a book swap in our non-circulating library - staff members bring in books they're done reading and trade them for others. Yesterday, I brought in the 1995 ed. of Women who Run with the Wolves (didn't like it; too newagey hippie drippy) and picked up my List of Books to Order to find out that WwRwtW was the first one. So I donated the copy I'd brought in; success! and money saved. 2. Several thousand of our books are covered with an inferior brand of Mylar which degrades into acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde is not exactly a chemical you want hanging around books, as it is highly flammable! Also, the paper backing on the Mylar is acidic. Sadly, these came from a company which sells "archival" products. 3. Yesterday, I bought two CDs to listen to while cataloging - the Dresden Dolls' Yes, Virigina, and Ghostface Killah's Fishscale (they are both $10 at Newbury Comics right now, god bless 'em). Reactions: DD's newest isn't as good as their previous releases; it's a little more poppy and Amos-y than I prefer. I miss the cabaret edge. Fishscale, however, is damned fantastic. If you like any hip-hop at all, I bet you'd like Fishscale. Who would have thought Ghostface Killah would be the member of the Wu-Tang Clan to make it big? 4. The Librarian - Quest for the Spear is not only completely accurate when it comes to librarianship but is also the best movie ever and I am a film major who has seen thousands of movies so I am right. I want to buy it and watch nothing else, ever.
